Facebook has recently revealed Project Aria, which is a new research project to develop the first generation of wearable augmented reality glasses. Project Aria is still in its nascent stages, and there is no display, but the AR glasses are installed with a host of microphones and sensors. The AR glasses are expected to take high-resolution photographs, calculate the user’s location, capture multichannel audio, and record videos. According to Facebook, Aria will start testing this month. The data collected will assist in the development of eye and head tracking and audio algorithms.
“Ultimately, Project Aria is going to help us develop the safeguards, policies, and even social norms necessary to govern the use of AR glasses and other future wearable devices.” – Facebook.
