Apple on Tuesday hosted the iPhone event showcasing the newest iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max which are equipped with the new LiDAR Scanner, mainly planned for enhanced and immersive AR experiences.

The Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR) Scanner calculates time it takes for light to reach a thing and reflect back and paired with the Phone’s ML (machine learning) abilities assist the iPhone to understand the world around the user.

LiDAR tech can also be used by application developers to develop accurate depth maps and speeding up the AR experiences. These improvements provide better augmented reality games, virtual shopping experiences, and home design tools.

Snapchat are one of the leaders in developing some of the most innovative AR photo filters and with LiDAR Scanner, they are expected to be even more immersive. Apple during the event showed some of Snapchat’s LiDAR powered capabilities, the AR Lens within the Snapchat app displayed flowers and grass and birds flying toward the user’s face.
