Epson showcases its next generation of Moverio AR smart glasses

Epson, a projection and imaging technology provider, has announced the Moverio BT-40 and Moverio BT-40S, a new generation of Moverio AR smart glasses intended to deliver a high-quality augmented reality viewing experience.

Epson mentioned that the Moverio solutions is powered by Epson Si-OLED technology and offers users many advances, including full HD 1080p display resolution, a wider FoV (field of view), high contrast, easy-to-wear, and improved connectivity.

“These new Moverio models bring advanced image quality in a binocular display with improved comfort and wearability to the rapidly increasing markets where we are seeing AR adoption grow, including industrial field service and front-line applications such as remote assistance and accessibility usage scenarios. The FoV, which it offers is 34° which is at a comfortable position for the eyes. The company also mentioned an up to 500,000:1 contrast ratio provides additional display space, and the binocular design allows a see-through Si-OLED display. Also, the new headset design includes optional nose pads and advanced weight distribution that help to improve comfort and aesthetic design.

Moverio comes with USB Type-C connectivity for different types of smartphones, computers, and tablets. The Moverio BT-40 smart glasses provide a plug-and-play option that can also be controlled with the free Moverio Link app.

The Moverio BT-40S includes the option of an ‘Intelligent Controller’ working on Android 9 that supports GMS (Google Mobile Services) for custom software integration.

The Moverio BT-40 and BT-40S smart glasses are currently available for pre-order for USD $579 and USD $999, respectively, and will be made available through Epson’s distribution and on Amazon in Q2 of 2021.
