The leading global video communication platform, Zoom, has joined forces with Microsoft Teams to facilitate cross-platform calls, share meeting data between the services, and add artificial intelligence and virtual reality-powered features to enhance video conferencing on both platforms.

The goal is to eliminate the need for extra licenses or third-party assistance to share data between the two platforms and enhance the overall user experience with the new features.

Sameer Raje, the General Manager, and Head, India, and SAARC at Zoom, remarked that the two companies would expand the scope of the collaboration with the development of new AI/VR technologies to enhance their offering further. Moreover, Zoom is looking to facilitate more use cases for diverse sectors, such as BFSI, pharma, and education.

The company is also incorporating Smart Gallery, an integrated AI-powered system to enable users to control a participant’s video feed. Another new introduction is the Zoom Rooms Controller app, a smartphone application that allows a meeting host to stop and start recordings without causing any disturbance during an ongoing video meeting.

Moreover, Zoom is on the lookout to hire an additional 6,000 personnel globally, particularly in India, with the country’s rapidly expanding XR technology sector. Home-grown firms or products, like JioGlass, and global brands, including Microsoft and Accenture, are looking to advance their XR presence in the region swiftly.

Last year, Microsoft introduced Mesh, a constituent of its Azure service that enables workers to collaborate within an immersive VR environment using digitized avatars. The cross-platform service works seamlessly with VR headsets, desktops, and smartphones.

Additionally, back in November, the company expanded the scope of the platform by introducing Mesh for Teams. The integration enables Teams users to seamlessly transition from a 2D video conferencing mode to a 3D VR collaboration space, allowing for better collaboration.
