Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) developer Krafton India hopes to have a significant impact in 2023 as it looks for new opportunities. The CEO of Krafton India, Sean Hyunil Sohn, asserts that the company has high ambitions for the subcontinent’s gaming scene.
Sohn said, “India is rapidly developing into a gaming hub, and in 2022 the country will become the largest consumer of mobile games with 15 billion downloads,” stating that the company expects growth of over 20% in FY23 and beyond.
The CEO of Krafton also discussed the company’s transition to the metaverse and Web3. “In 2023, we will continue to accelerate our focus in the field of metaverse and Web 3.0 to build ecosystems and provide unique gaming experiences for users,” added Sohn.
Some of the company’s plans have been delayed as a result of the ban on the well-known online mobile game BGMI this year, but the CEO reassured the players that more exciting times were still to come. The company remains committed to the Indian audience and is working on more titles with its partners to develop a holistic gaming ecosystem in the country.
This action by Krafton provides insight into Web3’s rising popularity and potential for the gaming industry. However, some fans have conflicting opinions about this decision.
The business also recently revealed that it is still collaborating with the government to bring back BGMI for Indian players quickly. As it works to resume BGMI services, the company also disclosed plans for new games that would be released in India.
According to a recent study by Niko Partners, the world’s fastest-growing gaming market may experience slower growth due to the ban on BGMI. While the study predicts that the number of players will more than double by 2026, growth will be slower in 2023.
