At CES 2023, TCL RayNeo, an augmented reality startup nurtured by TCL Electronics, introduced the RayNeo X2 AR smart glasses, which feature cutting-edge binocular full-color Micro-LED optical waveguide displays and a variety of new interactive capabilities.

The TCL RayNeo X2 AR glasses overcome the industry challenge of blending AR technology with a conventional eyeglass design without sacrificing technical capabilities. These smart glasses have a sleek and lightweight design suitable for everyday wear while offering a wide range of features, including smart navigation, automatic translation, photography, and music playback.

The TCL RayNeo X2 AR smart glasses boast significant advancements in display technology, offering a contrast ratio of up to 100,000:1 and image brightness of up to 1,000 nits, resulting in a superior visual experience.

The TCL RayNeo X2 AR glasses are equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 platform, enabling advanced features such as smart GPS navigation and AI-powered translation. The hands-free integrated camera captures stills, videos, and time-lapse from a unique first-person perspective. Advanced features like image stabilization eliminate shakes and movements, and the auto-night mode enables users to take clear and vibrant photos in low light conditions, making it easy to get the perfect shot every time.

The TCL RayNeo X2 will be available to the developer community in select regions during the first quarter of 2023, followed by a wider commercial release. To support this launch, TCL RayNeo will launch a developer project, inviting innovative developers to participate and create user-focused features for the AR glasses. The company’s CEO, Howie Li, stated that the goal is to develop a robust and dynamic AR ecosystem that offers users a wide range of content and services, including original AR games created by the TCL RayNeo team.

Li also presented a pyramid model for AR glasses products. The base level represents glasses with minimal intelligence, such as a display. The second layer is split between “birdbath” and optical waveguide technology. The third layer adds AR capabilities. Products that rely on birdbath technology and AR have strong display capabilities but lack seamless integration of the virtual and real world. On the other hand, optical waveguide plus AR offers a balanced display and perspective based on the real world. The top of the pyramid represents advanced AR glasses.

Data from third-party research firm Analysys shows that in the third quarter of 2022, TCL RayNeo ranked second among consumer AR e-commerce platforms, with a market share of 28.6%. Furthermore, during the Double 11 Shopping Festival in 2022, the brand achieved the top spot in sales of AR products on Tmall and JD.com.
