Aiming to expedite the region’s digital transformation, Tagawa City in Japan and the Indian firm Tech Mahindra have signed an MoU. Tagawa will be assisted in becoming a smart city by Tech Mahindra, and the two will work together on the development of new hardware and software using AR and VR, as well as the expansion of local 5G with multi-access edge computing (MEC). Additionally, Tech Mahindra will support Tagawa City in achieving its vision of digitalizing sporting facilities, utilizing tools like AI and motion cameras to improve accessibility and the overall user experience.

“We thank Tech Mahindra for cooperating in this public-private partnership with Tagawa City. We will leverage their expertise in digital technologies to bring about positive change in our city,” said Kimito Futaba, Tagawa City Mayor.

To achieve the vision of a smart city, TechM and Tagawa City will work together to digitally transform the tourism sector using AR and other technologies, build high-tech recreational parks, and provide labor assistance using IoT, such as body temperature and physical condition management of cows using AI cameras. According to Tech Mahindra, creating smart parks, campgrounds, and novel entertainment venues like forest cinemas will be advantageous for Tagawa City.

“Japan is one of the most advanced and innovative countries in the world, and our collaboration with Tagawa City is a major step forward in strengthening our ties with the country,” said Manish Vyas, President of the Communications, Media and Entertainment Business and CEO of Network Services at Tech Mahindra.

Tech Mahindra also announced the opening of a 5G Lab in the US last year. The new building, situated in Bellevue, Washington, aims to bring together an ecosystem of partners and support the development of comprehensive business solutions. The 5G Lab will enable operators, cloud service providers, and software and hardware developers to develop 5G-based solutions jointly.
