Climbing on to the metaverse bandwagon, Nike has created Nikeland within Roblox’s immersive 3D space to enable its fans to connect, create, share experiences, and compete virtually.
“Nike created this bespoke world with the backdrop of its world headquarters and inside Roblox’s immersive 3-D space, building on its goal to turn sport and play into a lifestyle,” said the company through an announcement.
The building and fields within Nikeland draw inspiration from the company’s headquarters. The virtual locations feature several arenas for the social gaming community to test their skills in various mini-games, such as tag, ‘the floor is lava,’ and dodgeball. In addition, it allows the users to create their own mini-games using interactive sports resources.
Nikeland visitors can replicate offline movement to online play using the accelerometers in their mobile devices. They can move their devices and bodies for in-game moves, including long jumps or speed runs.
Users can also virtually try-on digital versions of Air Force Ones and other Nike gear. Players within the metaverse can earn blue ribbons and gold medals by completing milestones and tasks, such as competing in yards, building their yard, exploring and finding Easter eggs, and more.
The company also plans to bring Roblox and Nikeland to life inside Nike’s House of Innovation in New York City using a Snapchat lens later in December.
