Filmmaker Neill Blomkamp’s Demonic’s first teaser has just been released. Distributed by IFC Midnight, Demonic is a lower-budget film due to the global pandemic shutting down the likelihood of creating larger-scale projects.
Demonic was shot in Canada last year during the COVID-19 pandemic. Blomkamp stated that they made use of the places available and filmed the project last year, doing the best with all the available resources. The constraints of the pandemic were the extra push the filmmaker needed to turn Demonic into a reality. The Demonic’s genre is a blend of sci-fi combined with horror.
Even though the teaser is only one minute long, it is filled to the brim with hellfire, a demon hiding in the closet, and eerie laughter. According to IFC Midnight’s official synopsis, Demonic centers around a woman who releases demons when supernatural forces of a decades-old disagreement between daughter and mother are revealed. The film’s character is performed by actress Carly Pope, and the teaser shows what looks to be a VR world that the lead actor is entering.
The movie is expected to be linked to a virtual reality world, but it is not specified in the synopsis. The teaser also does not reveal the link between the VR world and the real world.
Demonic, through its teaser alone, look to surpass audience expectations. The movie Demonic will be released on August 20th, 2021.
