Fontaines DC, the Irish post-punk band, has begun to explore the possibilities of virtual reality in the entertainment industry. The band did a virtual concert through an interactive live stream.
Fontaines DC had collaborated with MelodyVR for an interactive live stream that was broadcasted on November 23, 2020. The virtual concert was set at O2 Academy Brixton, London where the band’s show at the same time the previous year, which was their last performance in front of an audience, was sold out.
The MelodyVR app helped their fans around the world to experience the show live from several camera views using their virtual reality headsets.
“Giving a concert in front of an empty audience is a strange business. But we can regain some spirit in the live stream with you, even if it’s not the same,” the band stated in an Instagram post.
Nevertheless, Fontaines DC is not the first music creator to partner with MelodyVR for this innovative concept. Several artists such as Post Malone, Kelly Clarkson, and Louis Capaldi have previously collaborated with the company to bring in VR experiences for their audiences.
