This month, BMW Motorrad revealed its innovative ConnectedRide Smartglasses. It is made up of a heads-up display (HUD) technology for cyclists. This technology enables riders to access accurate navigation/speed data in one glance without shifting focus from the road. The most significant benefit of this technology is that it enhances the safety and awareness of the riders.

In a recent Press release,  the press wrote saying;  “What was still considered science fiction a few years ago is now becoming reality with the BMW Motorrad ConnectedRide Smart glasses. The innovative motorcycle goggles provide the head-up display technology already familiar from the automotive sector and project all relevant data, such as navigation, speed, or gear, directly into the rider’s field of vision in real-time, thus enabling particularly anticipatory and thus safer motorcycle riding.”

Before now,  Augmented reality helmets have gained wide popularity among motorcyclists. One such groundbreaking helmet was first developed by Forcite. However, BMW Motorrad has decided to take up the gauntlet in the world of immersive technology. But this time, its innovation comes without a helmet like Forcite, which by the way, could prove to be a universal choice.

Motorrad’s glasses are made up of one tinted UVA/UVB lens, while the other is an 85% transparent lens. Meanwhile,  an RX adapter is available for prescription glasses wearers. The product has some other key features. Some of which are its swappable nose pad and real-time GPS data navigation.

The glasses come in two different sizes, medium and large. Its swappable nose pads help them fit perfectly. The featured GPS data projection, on the other hand, enables riders to view their navigation data, vehicle speed, and current gear. However, it’s not limited to that alone.

This pair of augmented reality glasses currently sells at 690 EUR / USD 750. While the price might be on the high side,  the ability of the technology to transfer data is the greatest attraction of the product for riders. But only time will tell if the ConnectedRide Smartglasses will become a universal choice.
