Epic Games Launches Verse, a New Web3 Programming Language

New programming languages are entering the market as Web3 continues to expand. However, a need for developers is impeding its development. Verse is a new metaverse programming language introduced by Epic Games, intending to engage the community. Verse joins the list of other Web3 programming languages, including Curry, Solidity, Clarity, Mercury, and Rust.

Verse is an open-source declarative, functional logic language with an uncommon static type system (like Curry and Mercury). Verse is lenient in a way that everything is ultimately assessed when it is ‘ready.’ It includes call-by-value. Thus it is not strictly enforced (it can call functions before the argument has a value). It has a system of effects rather than relying on nomads.

Verse is incredibly ambitious because it extends from end users to seasoned developers with scalable transactional memory and robust stability guarantees. Verse’s compile time ensures that a model supplants the API of the previous edition and is scalable to running code and billions of users. Verse can be expanded upon and acquired as a first language, improving with use without breaking code.

The company’s future projects include MaxVerse and ShipVerse. Earlier, NVIDIA had launched a real-time graphics collaboration platform called Omniverse.

An all-time high of 60% of Web3 developers entered the field last year, according to developer analytics firm SlashData, but that still only makes up a small percentage of the 31.1 million software engineers worldwide as of the first quarter of 2022. The lack of understanding of the specialized programming languages required to implement smart contracts on the cryptocurrencies Solana and Ethereum makes this issue worse.

Solidity is now the most popular Web3 language, even though Rust is quickly catching up, with over 4,000 developers utilizing it exclusively on the Ethereum blockchain monthly. Rust is used with cryptocurrency and blockchain and delivers code faster. Clarity is designed primarily for creating smart contracts and decentralized apps, or dApps, in the Bitcoin Web3 ecosystem.
