In the time of social distancing, VMF (Vancouver Mural Festival) has come up with showcasing its arts virtually to the public.

Vancouver Mural Festival winter arts will be held from 12 – 28 February 2021, and they plan to transform Vancouver’s public places into immersive and interactive augmented reality art.

VMF will show more than twenty augmented reality artworks by both international and local artists. Art admirers can download the VMF mobile app to view these arts in AR. Users can also download maps where their AR art locations.

“More than ever, we’ve seen the positive impact that public art and public space brings to communities. This has driven us to harness technology in a way that demonstrates the transformative power of art in our cities. Until we can reconvene, we will continue creating live experiences in public. We really hope this experiment brings joy and inspiration to everyone downtown and beyond.” – Andrea Curtis, interim VMF Executive Director.

Vancouver Mural Festival has come up with a safe way for art lovers to explore and discover public art. International artists from Tokyo, Vienna, Dallas, and Ho Chi Minh, along with ten artists from Vancouver, Squamish, Tsleil Waututh, and Musqueam, will be presenting their arts during the event.

VMF, along with Vancouver Public Library, will also host a series of online public discussions and workshops for free. It is expected to highlight artists participating in the event and offer opportunities for networking and dialogue.
