The UK Government’s Department for Education (DfE) has launched the first-of-its-kind augmented reality Careers Fair in collaboration with the social media platform Snapchat.

The initiative aims to make young learners aware of the future scope of their education and training options. The ‘Get the Jump’ campaign is the government’s first AR-powered program ever run.

It will run until March 31, using Snap’s AR Lens platform to enable users to explore technical career pathways such as apprenticeships, Higher Technical Qualifications, and more.

The Snapchat app’s Discover tab will feature video content from London’s Future Studios, highlighting key life experiences with each individual training path and career.

Users can participate in the AR Careers Fair using the Snapchat app by navigating to the ‘Get the Jump’ Skills for Life icon.

Rebecca Thould, the Head of Campaigns for Young People and Adult Skills at the Department for Education, stated that the department realized that young people enjoyed hearing from other young professionals via their experiences through extensive research.

She added, “We know that Snapchat reaches 90 percent of 13-24 year olds in the UK so partnering with Snap was an obvious choice for the DfE. This campaign has enabled us to create a new and immersive way for young people to understand and engage with the education and training choices they have, in an environment native to them.”
