As per a statement released by the Defence Ministry, the Indian Army is looking to acquire 556 Augmented Reality Head Mounted Display (ARHMD) systems.

ARHMD will enhance the force’s capability for Land-Based Air Defence Weapon Systems such as the IGLA shoulder-fired Infrared Homing Air Defence Missile System and the ZU 23mm 2B AD Gun System. It will provide radar and thermal imaging (TI) sight outputs as overlays to the operator.

The technology will specifically be useful during the night and conditions of inclement weather. It will enhance reaction times, data computation for decision support, and integration of the output of TI sight even during daytime engagements.

“Indian Army is in the process of acquiring niche technology by procuring quantity 556 Augmented Reality Head Mounted Display (ARHMD) systems under Make-II category,” the statement said.

A project sanction order (PSO) was issued to six vendors in February to facilitate the development of a prototype.

The firm that comes up with a prototype in accordance with the provisions of the “buy” (Indian-IDDM) category of DAP 2020 will be awarded the contract.

The ministry also stated that a contract for the construction of eight Missile-cum-Ammunition (MCA) barges has been sealed with M/S SECON, Visakhapatnam.

The barges are set to be delivered from July 2022 onwards which will be inducted into the Indian Navy to undertake mission needs such as embarking or disembarking missile, gunnery, and ASW ammunition.
