In a bid to promote Apple Pay Express Transit, Apple has introduced a pair of new augmented reality experiences. Apple added the new AR feature to the Apple Pay website highlighting Apple Pay with Express Transit in New York City and a new Apple-designed Lens to promote the same on Snapchat.
The Apple Pay website teases you to “take a virtual trip with Apple Pay” to “experience” the platform in augmented reality. Clicking on the requisite option takes you to the AR experience directly in Safari. The experience is not just limited to the residents of New York. Instead, it can be accessed by users worldwide.
The AR experience takes you through a virtual subway ride from Brooklyn to Manhattan, including the New York City skyline views.
Nevertheless, the users residing in New York can use the Snapchat Lens to go on a subway ride through the Kings Theater in Flatbush, the SeaGlass Carousel in Battery Park, and the Great Hall at the New York City Hall of Science.
Apple Pay with Express Transit had concluded its process to add support for all stations in the NYC subway last year. The feature enables you to simply tap your iPhone or Apple Watch over a turnstile to access the subway instead of buying a regular ticket. The whole process is a lot quicker as with Express Transit, users don’t need to authenticate Apple Pay with Touch ID, Face ID, or double-click on Apple Watch.
