Verizon has partnered with Smithsonian Institute to bring artifacts to life from across Smithsonian’s museums and galleries.

“Whether kids have returned to the classroom or are remote learning, we need to think of new ways technology can help them engage with educational content. Activating Smithsonian Open Access is a great step forward toward immersive, interactive, and remote experiences made with the creative community.” – Sanyogita Shamsunder, VP, Verizon’s technology development.

Viewers can scan a QR code with their phone, and the artifact will come to life virtually. Verizon’s 5G Labs and the RYOT immersive studio applied AR and repeated audio to complement the experience.

“As our first public commissioning venture for the Interaction Lab, we are thrilled to be supporting independent creators and teams in devising new digital tools and immersive experiences with Smithsonian’s incredible library of Open Access collections.” Carolyn Royston, CEO, Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum.
