Next week, Microsoft is looking to use AltspaceVR, its social virtual reality platform, to host its first Ignite keynote in VR.

Alex Kipman, who is a technical fellow at Microsoft’s Artificial Intelligence and Mixed Reality department, stated that the virtual event would take place in the company’s social virtual reality platform either via headset or livestream video.

Alex Kipman has been one of the fundamental motivators behind the development of HoloLens. According to him, the keynote is designed to be an experience that will offer better immersion.

AltspaceVR, the social VR platform, has transformed since its initial days of consumer virtual reality and even more, after Microsoft acquired the platform in 2017. Since its acquisition, AltspaceVR has centered around an event platform that hosts user-built meetups. AltspaceVR supports Oculus Rift, Oculus Quest, and SteamVR headsets.

Although users can sign up for all other shows by registering, the virtual reality keynote has not been officially posted yet. But, anyone willing to join this keynote should find it on the event page of AltspaceVR towards the end of the launch date, which is March 2nd at 8 AM PT.

Besides the mixed reality-centric keynote, one more highlight of Ignite 2021 is a talk from Simon Skaria, who is the director of HoloLens at Microsoft.
