The popular Malaysian destination Langkawi is opening a one-of-its-kind theme park featuring several emerging technologies, such as virtual and augmented reality.

Called the VR Universal Langkawi (VRUL), the park will feature 12 unique attractions with over 100 immersive gaming exhibits. RFK Technologies Sdn Bhd has conceptualized the project intending to attract younger generations to the region.

Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar explained that the project also aims to develop the idea of ‘edutainment’ within the state. The progress of VR and AR tech in the country is quite evident through the success of studios producing immersive content for numerous companies from Taiwan, Japan, and China.

“Looking at this positive development, the government through Medac (Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development Ministry) has created several ‘game incubators’ that provide opportunities for those interested to experiment with various VR and AR development kits,” said Noh.

RFK Technologies Sdn Bhd’s Executive Chairman, Datuk Rosni Zahari, added that VRUL, built with the assistance of Medac and SME Bank, stands amongst the world’s leading theme parks across the world.

It is the only complete VR park with a distinctive theme for each attraction, features the world’s first free-roaming VR Mortal Blitz game, and is one of the four licensees of the ‘Beat Saber’ attraction by Facebook.

Moreover, with Medac and its agencies, VRUL plans to open another VR Universal Friends Park in Kuala Lumpur in mid-2022.
