The Oculus Quest already has a few really great art apps on offer, including Tilt Brush, Kingspray, and Gravity Sketch, but none really focus on painting on a virtual canvas. A new painting simulator, Painting VR that lets you mix and use unlimited amounts of fresh paint while creating on realistic canvases, has made its debut on the Oculus Quest.
The app’s developer, Oisoi.studio, describes Painting VR as an app that’s “very hands-on, easy to understand, and aimed at all ages.”
“Play around and feel the relaxing satisfaction of putting unlimited amounts of fresh paint on a huge canvas,” Oisoi, stated. “Teach yourself the basics of colors, the painting process, and composition. Sharpen your skills by experimenting with the tools and techniques at hand, and become part of a new wave of digital artists. All without having to bother about cleaning up afterward.”
Painting VR is available on the Oculus App Lab for Quest for $10. The app will possibly stay in early access on App Lab for about a year, with new updates coming in every trimester.
The studio also said that the second update would add more creation tools, and the third update will focus on “connecting with the world and other users.” Additionally, a fourth update will introduce the functionality to add novel environments and tools using the game’s upcoming marketplace.
The art app is currently exclusive to Quest and Quest 2. However, a port for other VR platforms might be in the works as well.
