The pioneering company transforming the future of aging through VR, Rendever, has acquired AARP’s Alcove, a leading consumer Virtual Reality platform.

Since 2020, AARP and the Rendever team have been jointly developing Alcove. Through an integrated ecosystem of goods that offer a better aging experience for seniors worldwide, regardless of where they live, Rendever is expanding its reach by bringing Alcove in-house. Financial information about the deal was kept under wraps.

No matter where you choose to age, social isolation is a growing health risk. According to studies, loneliness and isolation are more harmful to your health than smoking or being overweight, especially if you’re over 50. Prolonged isolation has health risks comparable to smoking 15 cigarettes per day.

For those who are aging at home, Alcove addresses these concerns. The platform helps people experience new locations and things they otherwise wouldn’t be able to due to the limitations that sometimes accompany aging. It also helps to bridge the physical barrier between family members. As the first family-friendly virtual reality app, Alcove is a place to connect with loved ones around the globe and is full of countless activities to discover and explore. It offers gaming, international travel, media, customization, leisure, and adventure.

“With Alcove, anybody can get a taste of the Rendever experience from the comfort of their home, downloaded at a moment’s notice through the Quest store. Creating Alcove with AARP allowed us to bring more joy to the world’s aging population, and we’re excited to carry on that mission even more hands-on,” said Kyle Rand, CEO and co-founder at Rendever.

Rendever will collaborate with brands in Alcove to improve the aging experience as part of the acquisition. Users can anticipate new branded experiences coming throughout 2023 thanks to UCHealth, the leading Colorado-based not-for-profit healthcare system, and its early participation in the initiative to improve health and wellness alternatives for aging folks and make them more accessible.
