The information technology service operating wing of South Korea’s CJ Group, CJ OliveNetworks, has created three AR-powered safety solutions to help business operators manage their facilities safely and conveniently.

The augmented reality setup facilitates the creation of three-dimensional virtual objects using various types of cameras placed around a space. These 3D objects are then transmitted through a screen or a part of smart glasses. Several similar AR solutions offer remote work capabilities wherein the wearer of the glasses can receive real-time support from experts for executing the task correctly.

The adoption of 5G technology is bringing AR applications to the mainstream much faster across industries such as construction, manufacturing, and more.

For instance, a mechanic wearing smart glasses powered by an AR-based engine maintenance solution can look under the vehicle’s hood to see a superimposed virtual model of the engine through the glasses. The viewing angle of the model can alter depending on the mechanic’s line of sight or any preset settings with the system.

CJ OliveNetworks, particularly, has developed three solutions – AR-based safety instrumented system (SIS), AR Remote Control, and Smart Mirror. The fundamental objective of these solutions is to prevent accidents and enhance safety for the workers.

The AR SIS uses smart markers to showcase a list of tasks through smartphones or tablet PCs. The AR Remote Control facilitates communication between workers and managers using a single server.

The Smart Mirror Solution is designed as a digital, kiosk-type work gear management system. It features a tower-shaped device that evaluates if the workers are using the correct gear, such as hazard suits, safety helmets, gloves, and masks, as they enter specific facilities, such as semiconductor plants or food factories. The system identifies workers by scanning iris patterns and will notify managers if any gear is found out of order.
