The leading global business school, Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, has launched a novel online program called Business in the Metaverse Economy. It aims to explore and understand the widening reach of virtual reality across global markets.

As per a release, the six-week certificate program is offered by the Aresty Institute of Executive Education at Wharton and includes six case studies from the business world as well as more than 50 videos of lectures featuring Wharton faculty and business leaders from organizations like Adobe, The Wall Street Journal, Unity, and more. Participants in the program will use metaverse technologies firsthand through computer-accessible immersion activities. The associated technological and economic components that power the present and future metaverse will be the main focus of the course.

“We designed this program for business professionals and executives from a range of backgrounds, including finance, management, and tech,” said Kevin Werbach, a Wharton professor and the Academic Director for the Business in the Metaverse Economy program.

He explained that the program’s objective is to give business executives, consultants, and entrepreneurs a grasp of the potential opportunities the metaverse offers and the skills they need to develop valuable solutions.

The tuition for the course is $4,500, starting on September 12. Participants can use a computer to access all metaverse activities; a virtual reality headset is not mandatory. Despite not receiving course credit, participants will still receive a digital credential from Wharton Executive Education and six Continuing Education Units.

The Prysm Group, a business consulting company, specializing in cutting-edge virtual technology, collaborated with Wharton to build the program. Last year, Prysm Group and Penn partnered to develop the Economics of Blockchain and Digital Assets, a blockchain economics certificate for professionals.

Penn has become the first Ivy League school to offer a course in the metaverse technology arena with this online curriculum’s launch. The school has developed the curriculum in response to Stanford’s introduction of a course with a similar format that facilitated classroom time focusing on virtual reality experiences and conversations.
