Web3 games developer Thirdverse has raised $15 million in funding led by the MZ Web3 fund for its web3 and VR games studio. The money will be used to accelerate the growth of its web3 and virtual reality games studio and to hire professionals, such as game developers, from all over the world.

Thirdverse intends to create brand-new web3 and virtual reality (VR) game titles as part of the expansion. It has been working with Blocksmith & Co. on the new Web3 and virtual reality game ‘Captain Tsubasa: Rivals’ since it was announced in October.

The most recent round of funding brings Thirdverse’s total capital raised to $33 million. A number of the top web3 venture capital funds and investors have backed the Tokyo-based business, such as 8DAO, B Dash Ventures, Double Jump.tokyo, Flick Shot, Fenbushi Capital, Kusabi, Holdem Capital, OKCoinJapan, MZ Web3 fund, Yield Guild Games, and OKX Ventures.

“We are thrilled to form a partnership with MZ Web3 Fund for the future growth of our team and investments in Web3 and VR. After significant growth in the past year, and with many projects in development and about to start development, we’re proud to enter a new stage of more accelerated growth for Thirdverse,” said Hironao Kunimitsu, CEO at Thirdverse, while commenting on the fundraising announcement.

In contrast, Yusku Maezawa, CEO of MZ Web3 Fund, praised Thirdverse’s management and a team of VR and blockchain game developers, showing his interest in being a part of the company’s next phase of growth.

Altair Breaker, a sword-fighting VR game for Meta Quest2 and PCVR, is part of Thirdverse’s fascinating portfolio of VR games. It also revealed in November that both games were a part of Sony’s PlayStationVR2, which is scheduled to launch in February 2023. In September, it also announced the multiplayer tactical shooter game X8.
