The Atlanta-based historically black college or university (HBCU), Clark Atlanta University, has received a grant of $11.8 million from EON Reality to prepare students for careers in the augmented and virtual reality domains.
It is one of the most significant private grants offered to the university in its history. The California-based company is establishing a definitive foundation to prepare talent for the growing AR/VR industry and metaverse-based businesses and applications.
The grant will also incorporate training for the Clark Atlanta faculty and students to equip them with the right tools and knowledge for the upcoming digital transformation. Through in-person and online instruction, it will bring the ‘Knowledge Metaverse’ to the HBCU community.
“Partnering with a respected HBCU like Clark Atlanta University, whose graduates shape our world every year, demonstrates the impact EON-XR can have on the future of academia and the sciences,” said Dan Lejerskar, EON Reality’s founder.
The ‘Knowledge Metaverse’ will enhance access and engagement in learning by amalgamating the real world with digital information and extended reality to capitalize on the opportunities arising with the induction of immersive experiences in the arts, gaming, entertainment, and other sectors. The grant will enable Clark Atlanta University to emerge as a leader in the digital grassroots movement.

Such partnerships with established and emerging innovators worldwide are crucial for educational institutions to enhance their teaching and learning methods. It also helps prepare the students for the upcoming needs of the corporate and entrepreneurial landscape.
