The pioneering fan technology platform for sports metaverse experiences, Quintar, has raised $3 million in fresh funding for its augmented reality platform for live sports and entertainment.

The Santa Clara, California-based startup aims to transform how people participate in live sports and entertainment. The company will invest the funds towards building the tech and expanding its content creator and app developer collaborations.

SeventySix Capital led the funding round with strategic partners – Nreal, a developer of consumer AR glasses, and SharpLink Gaming, a leading sports betting technology provider.

“Two important things happened with this round that have us very excited,” said Sankar “Jay” Jayaram, CEO of Quintar. “First, every one of our major investors reinvested in the company because they believe in the team and our vision and are excited [about] the progress. Second, having strategic investors like Nreal and SharpLink will help us accelerate and develop the most engaging and comfortable user experiences for fans everywhere.”

Jayaram had previously co-founded Voke, a virtual reality company that used VR to broadcast sports events. Intel had acquired that company in 2016 as it ventured into the sports tech market and rebranded it to Intel Sports.

However, in 2019, Jayaram realized that AR would be the more dominant immersive technology as it comes with a lower cost of adoption without the need to purchase any headset or equipment.

Quintar has deployed long-range registration and stereoscopic streaming to facilitate accurate, dynamic AR content. It enables content creators and rights holders to deliver personalized, interactive experiences for fans through their smartphones, TVs, and other wearables.

The company had a successful debut of its AR platform with the PGA Tour and is looking to rapidly expand its offering across sports and locations across the globe. The beta during three of last year’s FedEx Cup Playoff events with the PGA Tour highlighted the platform’s exceptional capabilities that will only get better with the fresh infusion of capital.

Additionally, SharpLink’s expertise in sports betting and Nreal’s focus on developing next-generation user experiences will help Quintar explore more comprehensive opportunities in the domain.
