Sony is now officially working on a next-generation VR headset. There was a job-listing that mentioned that Sony is developing a next-generation VR headset. They are looking for about 10-15 people who will be “in charge of the mechanical design of the lens barrel carrying the optical system.”
It has also been widely assumed that Sony’s next-generation VR headset could be a PSVR 2. Still, it is not very apparent from the job advertisement. Sony may be creating an entirely different headset. Or perhaps they could be developing an entirely new non-PSVR headset, a PC-based virtual reality headset, or a standalone VR headset.
The job posting also mentioned the delivery of “beautiful images and comfortable ease of use to customers.” This job posting confirmed that Sony is engaged and is investing in the long-term future of VR. The PlayStation 5 will launch at the end of 2020. There is also a lot of evidence to propose that Sony’s PSVR 2 is also in the works and will be launched after the PlayStation 5 launch.
For the virtual reality community, it is certainly welcome to learn that Sony is working on an advanced VR headset and that the company is still in play in the immersive tech environment.
