The pioneering software development company, Niantic, has announced several new features for 8th Wall, including new subscription plans, monetization tools, and discovery capabilities to help developers enhance their augmented reality and virtual reality web apps.

Niantic had acquired the company earlier this year and is now looking to facilitate specific transformations to make its offering more suitable for developers that use it to power their WebAR and WebVR content. The new subscription plans and tools would give developers more flexibility and more opportunities to engage with the 8th Wall platform.

The two new monthly subscription plans start at USD $9.99/month to make access to 8th Wall’s entire portfolio of tools more affordable for independent developers and small teams. The ‘Starter’ plan will enable the developers to create unlimited WebAR and WebVR projects with the Cloud Editor and use Niantic’s global hosting services to publish their apps to the 8th Wall platform.

The ‘Plus’ plan, priced at USD $49.00/month, will offer additional flexibility in sharing their web apps through direct project URLs, embeddable AR, progressive web apps, and custom domains.

The company also launched 8th Wall Payments to provide developers with the tech they need to enable secure payments on their AR and VR web apps. The ‘Payments Module’ within the Cloud Editor will allow developers to add products for sale to their web apps. The feature can also be used to add an access pass for the experiences, such as a one-day ticket to a holographic concert or seven-day access to an AR-enabled scavenger hunt.

Developers can distribute their WebAR content through numerous ways, such as QR.8 codes, 8th.io short links, or embed WebAR into any existing website. With the new features, they can now publish these experiences on their ‘Public Profile’ on 8thwall.com.

Such profiles can act as portfolios for agency partners, helping them get noticed by brands and onboard new clients. Even students and freelancers can use the tool to build their portfolios of WebAR and WebVR projects that could help them secure a job within the industry.
