The 3D design software specialist, Autodesk, is acquiring The Wild, a cloud-connected extended reality platform, that facilitates immersive experiences for architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) professionals. The Wild’s primary solutions include The Wild and IrisVR, which allow users to collaborate and review projects remotely.

The acquisition will help Autodesk capitalize on the growing needs for augmented and virtual reality tech within the AEC industry. It could further enhance its offering for its AEC customers over their project delivery lifecycle.

Wild’s XR technologies currently support over 700 customers worldwide with affordable, on-demand, and in-context solutions to enhance team collaboration. It enables remote workforces to use an immersive environment for real-time ideation and decision making amid a rapidly evolving work landscape.

“Our acquisition of The Wild reflects the rapid transformation taking place in the building industry, from the complexity of projects to the geographic diversity of teams who design, construct, and operate them,” said Andrew Anagnost, CEO and President, Autodesk.

The Wild’s virtual platform enables teams to collaborate using digital project models, helping them explore, interact, and make alterations to the model within the cloud. It allows for better decision-making and achieving more successful project outcomes within a lower timeframe and overall cost.

“The Wild and Autodesk share a common mission of encouraging a more productive and collaborative AEC industry, and in this case, one where teams can resolve issues in minutes from their desks rather than the traditional miles of costly travel,” said Gabe Paez, Founder and CEO of The Wild.

Today, XR tech is emerging as a vital constituent of business operations, particularly to facilitate remote collaboration for several functions. The Wild and Autodesk could offer a brilliant combination to their customers to help their teams collaborate on designs more fluently.
