The global tech leader in MEMS-based AR and VR display and 3D sensing solutions, OQmented, has set up a new location in Jena, Germany. The move comes amid the company’s strategic decision to develop its solutions as an integral component of complete systems, including optics.

Jena is well-known for its Optical Museum, which displays vintage Zeiss microscopes and a spectacles collection. The city has an international reputation for optics and photonics. It is home to a host of multinational corporations and startups, two universities, and twelve research institutes. The local Research & Development team set up in the city will enhance OQmented’s products by bringing in additional expertise.

The company also aims to double its workforce strength by the end of the year, majorly focused on expanding the optics team in Jena. It offers an engaging workplace that enables its members to make valuable contributions to developing the metaverse and participating in the next big Internet revolution.

OQmented’s fully integrated LBS-based (laser beam scanning) light engines have become a key component of several stylish and lightweight AR glasses. Designing and developing all-day wearables is vital to facilitate the merger of our physical world with virtual content and realities. It is an essential step for further development of the metaverse and the creation of an immersive world that people participate in on a day-to-day basis.

The company aims to capitalize on the opportunities provided by this emerging mass market by innovating around conventional optics by combining with it a unique micro-production process to create new types of products.
