A modder with the name of u/elliotttate on Reddit released a virtual reality mod (unofficial) for Iron Gate Studio’s Valheim in April.
The VR mode, titled ‘Valheim Native VR Mode Beta,’ lets players experience the game in immersive 6DoF virtual reality. It can be played using a SteamVR headset, including assistance for cross-play with non-virtual reality players.
While in June, the developer added a new update that introduced motion control interactions, turning the in-depth game into a complete virtual reality game.
The latest update is available via Nexusmods and adds full VRIK support, including finger movements based on the controller. Instead of pushing a button, players can engage with the in-game experience using physical actions, which results in more immersive virtual reality gameplay.
“The Valheim mod received a HUGE update and now has full motion control support. The experience will continued to be refined and polished, but it now feels quite a bit more immersive and a lot more like a game built from the ground up for VR. Now is the time to jump in if you’re fans of survival games like the Forest or Subnautica or fans of games like Skyrim VR.” – u/ellittate states in a post to Reddit.
