“The Weeknd” Canadian singer-songwriter will perform his newest studio album, After Hours, during an augmented reality concert on TikTok.

The event, named “The Weeknd Experience”, will be live-streamed on 7th of August at 8:30 PM ET on TikTok.

Rather than appearing in-person to play songs from his chart-topping album, “The Weeknd” will be served by a digital avatar as part of what TikTok declares its “first-ever in-app cross reality experience”.

For the moment, TikTok is partnering with Wave, the LA-based entertainment tech firm which has earlier put together similar augmented reality concerts with performers like Lindsey Stirling and John Legend.

The AR concert will use 3D renderings and picture-in-picture video to produce an immersive experience in which “The Weeknd” will invite fans to experience this concert virtually. The Weeknd Experience will raise funds for the “Equal Justice Initiative”, which is bound to ending mass incarceration and racial inequality in the US.

Fans will be able to donate directly to the foundation from the TikTok app during the concert, with the video-sharing platform advertising that it will match funds up to a generous amount.

Viewers will also have the possibility to buy exclusive merchandise motivated by “The Weeknd Experience”, which will be open from Thursday through 10. Income from the sale will be distributed to the Equal Justice Initiative.
