Snapchat is known to always create innovative features that help users create fresh and lasting memories; the newly launched Augmented Reality filter is no different. The Augmented Reality Lens allows users to customize their snaps with peculiar nicknames. There are several versions of handles embedded in the filter. From endearing names like “my love” and “sweetheart” to abbreviated names or funny ones like “Goofball”,  the potential knows no bounds.

Much in the same way Bitmoji-Snapchat most popular filter, allows users to express themselves in a fun way, the new nickname filter presents another form of interaction and bonding with closest friends, families, and groups.

According to Tony Keusgen, Snap Inc. Managing Director “Snapchat is all about having fun and connecting with your friends and family, and so often it’s those closest to us who coin our nicknames,” Tony Keusgen, the Managing Director of Snap Inc. Australia and New Zealand, explains. “[We wanted] create a fun way to share even more of the real you with your favorite people on Snapchat.”

The amazing thing about the new Augmented Reality Lens is how it resonates with the younger demographic. GenZs are more likely to jump on fun experiences like this when compared to the older generation.  According to statistics, the interest level between Baby Boomers is about  38% – 53%  respectively. With these statistics, it’s obvious that Snapchat’s new nickname filter fits the GenZ culture.
