India’s homegrown e-commerce giant, Flipkart, is partnering with Snap Inc. to upscale its AR-powered experiences for millions of shoppers across the country. This is Snap’s foremost partnership with an Indian e-commerce company that will benefit several new and existing shoppers on the platform.

Through the collaboration, Flipkart will integrate Snap’s camera kit into its application. The new feature will enable the users to virtually try on products or place them in their physical surroundings before making the purchasing decision. However, this initiative is not Flipkart’s first foray into the world of augmented reality.

Flipkart already has an AR-enabled camera within the app. The addition of Snap’s Camera Kit will further improve its capabilities to allow users to explore products on the platform more immersively.

Snap’s premier platform, Snapchat, is built around the camera, and the company itself has been actively innovating in the augmented reality domain. Combined with Flipkart’s e-commerce dominance, this expertise could help bring varying AR experiences to a broader target audience.
