A couple from Tamil Nadu, India is set to host their wedding reception in the metaverse with the help of the startup TardiVerse. An IIT Madras project associate, Dinesh SP will tie the knot with Janaganandhini Ramaswamy in February in a village in the Krishnagiri district.
The wedding will be an in-person event, but the couple will host a virtual Hogwarts-themed reception for their family and friends situated across the globe. The attendees can sign in to the event within a virtual venue as Hogwarts avatars and interact with the couple and other guests.
Dinesh has also decided to create an avatar dedicated to Janaganandhini’s late father, who will preside over the function, as a tribute. He is a crypto and blockchain enthusiast and pitched the idea of the virtual wedding reception to his fiancé. The Potterheads decided to bring a unique twist to the virtual event with the theme.
The metaverse startup, TardiVerse, is helping the couple to turn their idea into a reality. Metaverse is essentially a digital environment powered by virtual and augmented reality technologies to enable a three-dimensional, multi-sensory social experience for the participants.
