At its AR/VR-focused event Connect, tech giant Facebook (now to be known as ‘Meta’) unveiled a new app that intends to bring more creators into the world of building for augmented reality.
Called Polar, the soon-to-be-released iOS application will enable users to create their own AR filters for Facebook and Instagram through the Spark AR platform. Users would get a much simpler way to work on their creations using templates, requiring much lesser technological supremacy than existing platforms.
With the growth of Instagram Reels, the usage of AR on smartphones has significantly increased amongst the platform’s users. Therefore, the company sees this as an excellent opportunity to push even further for better adoption of AR.
The app is currently in early production, and Facebook hinted that it would release a close beta later this year with some chosen creators onboard. Upon subsequent developments, the platform will be released to the public as a fun and easy way to create AR filters.
