Indian short-video platform, Moj, announced a collaboration with Snap Inc. that will allow the company to integrate Snapchat’s Camera Kit within its platform. Through the Camera Kit, users get access to the Snapchat camera with all the same lenses, interface, and more without downloading or signing up for Snapchat. The software was launched in June last year by Snap and this is the first instance of an Indian company implementing it on its platform.
This will provide more creative tools to Moj creators directly within the app. Usually, short video creators create videos using other apps and then import them to sharing platforms like Moj due to limited editing functionalities on the app itself.
“The newly launched collection of 30 Lenses will give our community a never seen before social experience and make content creation on Moj a whole lot more fun,” stated Gaurav Mishra, Senior Vice President of Product at ShareChat.
Moj also announced that it is going to develop over 400 new lenses that will use augmented reality to blend effects into the creator’s background. The company will also work with Snapchat Official Lens Creators to curate enhanced experiences.
Even though the Snapchat app is the company’s primary offering, Camera Kit will enable it to power future augmented reality products and become more than just an app. The Camera Kit program is in early access at the moment and anyone can request access through the program website. However, the eligibility of the program is unknown.
Integrating Camera Kit will save months of development work and investment for the Sharechat owned platform. Snapchat is globally acclaimed for its augmented reality features and Moj will be able to reach that quality with a fraction of the effort. The collaboration also puts the platform in the league to compete with Instagram’s Reels which also offers similar features to creators.
