An updated version of the original game Myst for PC was released exclusively for the Oculus Quest by Cyan back towards the end of 2020. Nevertheless, later this year, players can experience the game on PC and Mac without the need for possessing a VR headset.

The new upgraded version of Myst has been created from scratch to support modern platforms. It is expected to be packed with contemporary art, sound, interactions, and even optional puzzle randomization. Cyan brands it as the definitive Myst experience.

PCMag had presented high praise for Myst in an interview in December 2020.

“Myst still has the power to befuddle and excite today as it did in 1993. With VR, it’s more immersive, and holds up well against the physical discomfort the VR platform can produce. Featuring a price in the impulse-buy territory, Myst is easy to recommend. It’s a fresh, but familiar, retelling for long-time fans, and accessible for new players.”

Oculus Quest’s hardware led to a few limitations, such as misplaced interactive elements and an underperforming graphical experience. Nevertheless, the latter can be optimized with a robust PC VR setup, and Cyan has enough time to deal with the other bugs and inconsistencies.

The new Myst can already be added to your wishlist on Steam and GOG, with an expected launch date during Q3 2021. The title will support 2D and VR modes on the PC. The game will also support AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution upscaling technology.
