Leicestershire students are all set to use VR to visit college campuses during the current lockdown.

The virtual reality tech will allow students to step inside South Leicestershire and North Warwickshire College’s Hinckley and Wigston Campuses.

South Leicestershire and North Warwickshire College have worked with Dev Clever, a digital innovation business, to develop a 360° video tour to help students visit the college in VR during the COVID-19 lockdown.

The VR technology will enable students to enjoy an immersive VR experience of campus life, engage with current students and explore college facilities, all virtually.

“We’re excited to announce the rollout of our VR project, which will enable pupils to experience what college life could hold even if they are unable to attend in person. Using the VR headsets will recreate the experience and allow them to walk through our campuses and imagine their lives as students. Virtual reality has become more mainstream during the pandemic with lockdown preventing us from accessing physical locations.” – Anita Ladva-Cheung, Marketing and Communications Manager, NWSLC.

NWSLC intends to take two hi-tech virtual reality headsets into schools, and they will also have around 500 cardboard viewers to give away to students to try at home.

At Hinckley Campus, students can tour the campus facilities and look inside the studios for photography, performing arts, and graphics.

“We are keen to bring the latest technology to prospective students’ experiences of college as they make decisions about their next steps at the age of 16. In addition, we are running regular virtual open events on our website that enable them to engage with tutors, ask questions, and find out more about career options.” –  Anita Ladva.

The Wigston Campus VR experience will highlight the campus’s spacious atrium, beauty salons and hairdressing, learning resources for computing, construction and engineering workshops, and IT and media.

The next NWSLC virtual open event is on 17th March 17 2021.
