Arizona Sunshine and A Fisherman’s Tale’s developer and publisher, Vertigo Games, announced that it acquired SpringboardVR, a VR arcade software company, for an undisclosed value.

SpringboardVR operates a subscription-based management platform to help virtual reality arcades function efficiently. The software allows the users to pick from a range of officially licensed titles. The platform enables the arcade owners to control the length over which a customer can use the platform amongst several other aspects of an arcade experience.

The subscription for the platform comes down to $30 per month but the company offers discounts for the multiple stations within an arcade.

It was confirmed through a press release that SpringboardVR’s service will continue to run under Vertigo’s ownership and a lot of members of the team had also switched to the company. Vertigo Games also runs an arcade business wherein it distributes the arcade version of Arizona Sunshine along with other titles such as Ghost Patrol VR and Corsair’s Curse.

The pandemic has had a huge negative impact on the VR arcade business due to the locations being shut for almost the entire year. The business that was thought of as one of the fastest-growing in the industry has been struggling to function at this point.

However, Vertigo Games had provided relief packages throughout 2020 to support the arcade sector. And with vaccines rolling out globally, we can expect the arcades to start functioning again shortly.
