The innovator for AR-powered air combat training, Red 6, announced the successful completion of its first multi-aircraft training flight against multiple augmented reality assets. With this successful test flight, the company has opened doors for a new era of combat training for fighter planes.
The team achieved the significant milestone of connecting several live aircraft into a singularity augmented reality environment, outdoors and in the sky. The company’s founder and CEO, Daniel Robinson, expressed immense excitement, stating that the achievement was a crucial step for the creation of an outdoor military metaverse.
Two Red 6 pilots took off in Berkut 540s from California’s Santa Monica Airport during the test flight, flying towards Red 6’s Combined Augmented Reality Battlespace Operation Network (CARBON) over Ventura County. The pilots could view and interact with an AR-generated KC-46 Pegasus Tanker. The mission was for Red 1 to execute the training for refueling from the AR tanker while Red 2 observed the entire operation in real-time.
“Never has it been possible for multiple pilots to communicate simultaneously in AR like this. Today was a historic milestone for not just Red 6, but for the overall AR industry,” said Brandon Harris, an F-22 and Red 6 test pilot.
The flights are a massive advancement of the foundation laid by Red 6’s first-of-its-kind live dogfight against an AI-driven virtual aircraft, demonstrated two years ago. That experiment showcased the revolutionary display and control systems built by the company to bring AR into the real world while incorporating tactical AI within its system.
The company continues to push boundaries of what was believed to be possible within this space. Synthetic training environments have a bright future, with extensive research being conducted in the field. Red 6 undoubtedly aims to be an integral part of the entire industry’s growth and success.
