The real estate search engine for apartments and properties in New York, StreetEasy, has developed a novel feature called StreetScape within its iOS app that uses augmented reality to showcase stats about residential buildings as you walk down the streets in the city. The feature is set to be rolled out this summer.
“We’ve all experienced it: you walk by a building and immediately wonder what it would be like to live there and whether that’s even a real possibility,” said Peter Lim, a Product Manager at StreetEasy.
StreetScape aims to amalgamate the digital and physical experience of finding a home in New York. The idea is to provide potential buyers with prompt information about a property right when they are standing in front of a building. It provides the home buyers or tenants with the confidence to make a decision and act fast in the competitive real estate landscape.
A StreetEasy Instagram poll highlighted that 95% of people walk past an apartment building wondering if it has an available unit that meets their preferences. Moreover, 77% face trouble identifying a building’s address to search for the same property later.
The new app aims to resolve these issues by allowing users to scan the street and learn more about the buildings through floating icons that pop up in front. They can get information about the amenities, check out the units available on StreetEasy, view pictures and floor plans, and even take a virtual tour of the available units.
Such a tool could be immensely helpful for potential buyers and tenants in the fiercely competitive market this summer. Just walking in the neighborhood where you want to live and directly getting all the information on the available listings in the area could be a gamechanger for the platform’s users.
