Google Maps is excellent at helping a user navigate a town, and soon, Google Maps will help users navigate indoor places.

Using Google Maps to navigate the selected destination is one thing, but the company plans something entirely different for those lost indoors for an airport or station terminal. According to Google, it will roll out AR to help travelers locate stairs, elevators, escalators, stores, etc., if they find themselves lost in an airport or a mall.

The live view feature of Google Maps is already available for the outdoors, and the indoor version will work the same way. AR will feature arrows on the mobile screen showing travelers where they go, similar to how the app functions on streets.

“This is definitely a solution to a practical problem, navigation. All of us have difficulty getting around, especially in new places, so it will definitely be helpful in that respect.” – Professor Rakesh Verma, University of Houston.

Google is also planning to update normal maps to give users the eco-friendliest option for their journey. Google Maps will also soon allow buyers to schedule grocery pickups, and the new feature will send buyers a notification when it is time to go pick up the grocery.
