Netflix has launched an exciting VR game experience called Eden Unearthed, based on the Netflix series Eden. The game takes the players into a world where artificial intelligence and robots have taken over the human race, leaving just a single human girl to look after herself with the assistance of a group of friendly humanoid machines.

It’s a compelling animated tale packed with moments of hope and discovery, drawing inspiration from the tradition of most Japanese anime. The experience was directed by Fullmetal Alchemist director Yasuhiro Irie and created by Justin Leach, a 3D animator for Ghost in the Shell 2.

The VR game features desolate but lush landscapes of the planet, which must be navigated through in quest of fuel and clues. The narrative highlights a close resemblance to the show’s second season, which is now streaming on Netflix.

It is unusual for movie and TV studios to curate AR experiences to promote their productions since the idea is to serve the objectives for existing properties rather than a comprehensive standalone experience. However, with Eden Unearthed, Netflix is looking to experiment if the anime fans might be attracted into a different gaming environment based on the streaming TV series.
