Nerf has been entertaining trigger-happy college kids, children, and a dedicated group of adults for years. However, Nerf’s journey into the virtual has finally reached a new summit, from video games to AR laser tag.
At the Upload VR showcase, Nerf announced its Ultimate Championship, which has sci-fi-inspired tournament play and iconic blasters for the Oculus Quest in 2022 following a teaser trailer launch. The game will give gamers a new dimension of play who like shooting their friends with foam darts.
The teaser trailer shows 4 gamers approaching a stadium of cheering spectators. Each player carries a Nerf blaster, generic trap music, weapons flourishes, and Tron-style wardrobes abound. Secret Location, which is the studio behind the virtual curtain, is best be known for the many Emmy and Cannes Lion awards.
Though this is not the first Nerf game to use AR and motion tracking, the game enthusiasts might remember the earlier Nerf N-Strike series for the original Wii. However, Nerf Ultimate Championship is different in the quality of its audio-visual experience and would make an encouraging alternative to the physical sport.
