The leading supplier of smart glasses and augmented reality tech, Vuzix Corporation, is partnering with Verizon to leverage the power of Verizon’s 5G and edge computing technologies. The two companies aim to deliver an enhanced augmented reality experience for sports and gaming.
The partnership agreement steers towards technology advancement and commercialization to deliver immersive augmented reality training experiences. These experiences will be powered by Verizon’s 5G Ultra Wideband service and edge compute platform, using Vuzix Shield smart glasses.
The agreement draws leverage from the proof-of-concept program executed by the companies earlier this year. It highlighted the power of Verizon’s 5G and edge computing platform to run applications at the edge of the network using Vuzix smart glasses. The companies were able to deliver an enhanced response time, longer battery life, and increased computing capacity.
