USA TODAY is launching an augmented reality project called “Explore Mars Perseverance Rover” to mark NASA’s Mars Rover landing. It is available to local audiences and is also available in USA TODAY and thirteen local news apps.
It is the most vital distribution of AR content across the USA TODAY NETWORK, and part of the purpose is to introduce more digital and innovative content experiences for local audiences.
The Emerging Tech team of USA TODAY sets out to introduce audiences to additional information on the Mars rover in an interactive and immersive format. It will enable users to simulate the landing of the rover on Mars.
“We’re excited to leverage the reach of our NETWORK to deliver premium augmented reality content to more people like never before. Our latest interactive story is the perfect mix of technology and storytelling that has the potential to fascinate and inspire.” – Ray Soto, Director of Emerging Technology.
“Explore Mars Perseverance Rover” is made available across USA TODAY NETWORK apps – Treasure Coast News, Florida Today, Naples Daily News, Pensacola News Journal, The News-Press, Tallahassee Democrat, Montgomery Advertiser, Corpus Christi Caller-Times, The Tuscaloosa News, Gadsden Times, The Desert Sun (Palm Springs), Delmarva Now, and Austin American-Statesman.
Local news apps and USA TODAY users can use the content through the Top Stories front.
The AR project is roughly three minutes in length and was developed in association with the Smithsonian Channel.
