The Holi last year was probably the last time people got to meet their friends and family to enjoy a festival and celebrate before the imminent lockdown. Nevertheless, this year is certainly not going to be the same. People still need to stay locked in and just celebrate with their immediate family or flatmates.
However, Snapchat has come up with some interesting tools to help wish our friends and family from a distance amid this never-ending pandemic. Some new colorful sticker packs and augmented reality (AR) lenses (including 3D Bitmojis), Snap Map features, filters, paint-throwing cameos, and more are on offer on the Snapchat app to enable us to celebrate the festival in a unique way.
Snapchatters from around the globe have created more than 50 Holi lenses for the Snap community that are all collected in the ‘Holi Hai’ tab in the Lens Explorer section. You would also be able to witness Holi-themed content in Discover from 5-minute Crafts India, BRUT India, and PLUC.
The company conducted a Holi Lensathon in partnership with Skillenza. Jeetesh Singh, Deepak Chaturvedi, Kunal Gediya, and Chanchal Choudhary have been adjudged as the winners of the contest.
These were chosen amongst hundreds of entries judged on technicality, originality, and creativity. Jeetesh designed his lens to drench a Snapchatter in flower-infused colored water upon tap with the caption ‘Bura na mano Holi hai’. Deepak challenged Snapchatters to eat as many Gujiyas as they can. Kunal resorted to the classic bursting balloons. Chanchal’s lens, which was voted the most creative, enables the users to create their own Holi fire.
