M&A and funding in AR and VR segment exceeds USD 2 Billion in 2020

The AR and VR market has received around USd2 billion in investment till now in 2020. Per a report by ABI Research, AR and VR companies received around USD 1.5 billion in funding and around USD 500 million in M&A deals.

Within the augmented reality market, hardware was one of the most critical investment areas, especially consumer hardware, as this market continues to expand. Mira, Nreal, MAD Gaze, and Magic Leap are some of the AR and MR smart glass manufacturers receiving substantial funding in 2020. While in the virtual reality market, gaming studios (like Surviosmedia and Thirdverse), entertainment, and media received the most massive funding pie.

Within the software, substantial funding includes Unity’s USD 1.3 billion IPO. AR software provider Augmedics, enterprise platform provider Librestream, and AR marketing creation platform Poplar received funding rounds exceeding USD 1 million.
