Facebook Reality Labs and AT&T have collaborated to develop collaborative video calling and AR experiences in Facebook’s apps. They are working with Facebook’s Spark AR platform that powers augmented reality experiences across apps and devices.

Space Jam: A New Legacy promo is their first augmented reality collaboration. Using a smartphone, users can bring Tweety, Lola Bunny, and Daffy Duck into their living space through AT&T’s Instagram profile, Facebook, or website. Users can use the rear or front camera to take a pic with them or produce a video.

As per AT&T, the company’s 5G network can boost the reliability and performance of every augmented reality experience with the support of graphics and shorter load times.

The partnership with Facebook is one of the many 5G collaborations AT&T presented at an event this week. AT&T has partnered with Boingo to deliver 5G+ to US airports, including LaGuardia, Chicago O’Hare, John F. Kennedy, Denver International Airport, and Los Angeles Airport.

AT&T plans to introduce 5G+ in seven airports in 2021 and 25 by 2022 to reduce network congestion. They have already switched on 5G at Tampa International Airport.

AT&T has also partnered with the Bookful app for 5G-powered augmented reality reading experiences. In addition, they are also working with Wevr, Warner Bros., Ericsson, Dreamscape, and Qualcomm on a proof-of-concept Harry Potter VR experience called Chaos at Hogwarts.
